HIGHLIGHTED JUNE EVENTS
FAMILY DAYS AT LOCKHOUSE 25
The C&O Canal Trust will host Kids Programming at Lockhouse 25 with family explorations and activities. Participate in hands-on programs to explore and learn about the C&O Canal in the 19th century. Family Days will be held on:
Saturday, June 1, 1 - 3pm
Saturday, July 13, 1 - 3pm
Sunday, August 10, 11am - 1pm
Activities will include learning about mules, what life was like for children growing up on the canal, the Underground Railroad's connection to the C&O Canal, and how soldiers communicated during the Civil War. Free
16TH ANNUAL HERITAGE DAYS WEEKEND
Saturday and Sunday, June 29-30, 2013: COUNTY-WIDE LOCATIONS, MONTGOMERY COUNTY
Celebrate Montgomery County history during Heritage Days Weekend! Sponsored by Heritage Montgomery, over 35 sites will be open all around the county FREE from noon to 4pm each day. Programs will focus on history, outdoor recreation, children's and family activities, music and FUN! Many sites will feature living history presentations, games & crafts, refreshments, music, and history, too! This year's festival will also include a very special event: The Civil War Comes to Rockville, commemorating the 150th anniversary of Confederate General J.E.B. Stuart's raid on the town. On Saturday only, reenactments, lectures, music, and crafts will be featured at the Beall-Dawson House, Historic Red Brick Courthouse, Christ Episcopal Church, and Rockville Town Square, capping off with a Community Country Dance in the Town Square in the evening!
